SPECIAL

Special Inspections are “inspection of selected materials, equipment, installation, methods of construction, fabrication, erection or placement of components and connections, to ensure compliance with approved construction documents and referenced standards as required by Chapter 17 of the Building Code or elsewhere in the code or its referenced standards” (BC 1702.1, definition for Special Inspections).

Special Inspections have been part of the New York City Building Code since 2008, superseding what used to be called “Controlled Inspections.” Performed at critical points during most repair and upgrade projects, special Inspections verify that construction work has been conducted according to the project’s approved construction documents.

ENERGY CODE INSPECTIONS

These Energy Code Inspection Categories aim to promote sustainable construction practices, reduce energy consumption, and minimize the environmental impact of buildings in New York City. Inspections conducted under these categories help ensure that buildings comply with energy code requirements, contribute to the city's efforts to combat climate change, and provide energy-efficient and environmentally friendly structures.

LIGHTING

Domestic Water Systems

Inspections to verify the efficiency and installation of domestic hot water systems.

Renewable Energy Systems

Inspections for the integration and compliance of renewable energy systems, such as solar panels or wind turbines.

Energy Performance Certificates

Inspections to obtain Energy Performance Certificates for buildings, indicating their energy efficiency rating.
